File EEACAB: Use of Prescription Medications and Other Substances by Bus Drivers


A driver shall inform his/her supervisor if at any time the bus driver or van driver is using a substance prescribed by a physician. Such a substance may be used only if the physician has advised the driver that it will not adversely affect his/her ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

A driver shall inform his/her supervisor if at any time the driver is using any substance which he/she has reason to believe may adversely affect his/her ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

The District may require the driver to provide a statement from his/her physician indicating the substance, whether or not it is prescribed, will not adversely affect his/her ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Any medical records acquired in documenting the use of medications will be maintained in a confidential medical record kept apart from general personnel files.

This policy shall apply to both school bus drivers and van drivers.
